The Rosary is a devotion that honors the Virgin Mary and consists of a set number of specific prayers. It starts with introductory prayers such as the Apostles' Creed, Our Father (the Pater Noster or the Lord's Prayer), Hail Mary's (Ave's), and Glory Be (Gloria Patri). The main component of the Rosary is made up of decades, each consisting of ten Hail Marys bracketed between an Our Father and a Glory Be. There are twenty mysteries divided into four groups: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous.

When people refer to "saying the rosary," they usually mean reciting any set of five decades, which typically takes about fifteen minutes.
